Good stuff..

I love Mark Driscoll. I think he put my thoughts into perfect form here.

I'm reminded of the words of Isaiah (55:2), "Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare."

Many people have been spending their time and money on what does not satisfy. I was at Walmart the night of the election and heard someone say, "Now that Obama's in office, all our troubles are over." In the coming months, these people are going to be sorely dissappointed. Obama may give them some of what they want, but he cannot fill that soul deep hunger for the presence of a living God. As St. Augustine said, "You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You." May we who know Christ be ready to offer living water to those who are parched, and the Comforter to those who are disillusioned and dissapointed.

To be fair to Obama, being a savior is not a claim he has made. He clarifies this at the end of this youtube clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xk5YJkhizRs&feature=related

And as one of those who voted for him and who spoke with many who did vote for him, no one who I spoke with is thinking that, through this past election, Obama will save us from sin or fulfill the deep desire that we have to be connected in meaningful ways with God. While we may look to political figures for inspiration (for conservative evangelical Christians this past year Sarah Palin certainly comes to mind)all sides must ultimately remember (and here comes my reformed side) the only election that has ever mattered is the one that God made in choosing to send Christ as the Emmanuel "God with/for us".

Agreed. I don't think Obama has made any messianic claims or anything. (Though his ads were a bit creepy that way.)

I do think many of the people I know really are looking to him for a lot of change. Some of them have thrown themselves into his campaign to the extent that now they feel a big let down. (Kind of like after your wedding.)

Anyone who is spending all their time and energy on things other than Christ and His kingdom will eventually be let down.

I just want to be one of the ones there, offering hope.

And praise God that He has indeed chosen us and given us the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry "Abba, Father."
